I tell all my pregnancy and post natal clients that labour is going to be the biggest work-out of your life ! So it is important you are fit, strong and prepared. Just like any work-out you need to ensure you are properly hydrated, this labour-aid drink is fantastic natural drink for sipping on between contractions.
Make sure you make it before your due date so you can have it in the fridge to grab and go once your labour commences. Even better freeze some as ice cubes so you can suck on these if labouring at home.
Drink this During and After Labour
Mix or blend together with ice :
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/3 cup of lemon juice
- 1 crushed calcium tablet
- 500ml of coconut water
- 500ml of water
- Lots of ice
- Optional – fresh mint leaves
Ok so it isn’t exactly a mojito ! However if you have time or a fabulous partner – you can add some mint, lime slices and more honey (if you need it sweeter).
You can even pre-make it and keep it in the freezer. Just don’t forget to grab your labour-aid drink before you go to hospital.
Remember just sip on it, this will help you stay hydrated and help flush out any lactic acid build up. Guzzling too much too soon will only make you want to pee or get a cramp !
